Building Yunnan into a radiation center facing to South Asia and Southeast Asia is a new orientation of Yunnan’s opening up to the whole country, set by the Party’s Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, which grasps the development trend at home and abroad and stands at the height of the overall development of the party and the state.

Foreign oriented, facing south and Southeast Asia and the peripheral economic circle of the India ocean, Yunnan actively participates in the China-Indo-China Peninsula Economic Corridor, BCIM Economic Corridor as well as the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, Lancang-Mekong cooperation mechanism construction, strengthens the construction of regional and international economic and trade center, science and technology innovation center, financial service center and cultural exchange center. Taking the “five links” (namely policy communication, facilities interconnection, trade channels open, financial integration and people’s hearts interlinked) as starting point to push forward interconnection with neighboring countries, enrich and improve exhibition platform, public affairs platform, “go global” platform and open economy carrier, Yunnan has become increasingly closely linked with the international and domestic markets, in particular with the surrounding countries, together with increasingly close cooperation and deepening of interests integration.

Domestically, to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Yangtze River Basin, the Pan Pearl River Delta region, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Province, the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone and the neighboring provinces and regions, Yunnan will strengthen services, build platforms, and become bridge bond for inland provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) and large central enterprises as well as private enterprises which rely on Yunnan’s “go out” in the border. It will also take the opportunity to strengthen the construction of its own radiation capacity.

In 2016, the number of people entering and leaving Yunnan reached 31,144,000, which increased by 40% compared with that in 2012. Yunnan has become an important destination for various delegations to visit China.

In the list of achievements from “The Belt and Road Initiative” International Cooperation Summit in 2017, there are 5 major categories, 62 projects, more than 160 achievements relating to Yunnan. The position and role of Yunnan in China’s new all-round opening pattern has become increasingly prominent.
